Maybe so..... but if you take a walk around the village of Beckhampton its gardens are full of stones, some of which are quite huge! Also, me and a friend found a massive sarsen near the roundabout on the way to Beckhampton, I personally think that there were avenue stones beyond the cove. Stukely has shown this in his drawings, and even though his perspectives may have been innaccurate, he didnt tend to put stones where there werent stones( if you get my drift!)

The massive stone near the roundabout was excavated by Mrs Vatcher in the 1960's when the roundabout was being built.
A childs burial was found underneath.
On the other side of the road is a triangular stone in the ditch which marks a gypsys grave.
The stones around the village come from Chapel field which in Stukeleys time was part of the Beckhampton natural stone drift, some stray stones are still in Beckhampton valley if you walk far up along it.
