Over Silbury however I find myself in agreement with both you and Pete - you because you have campaigned tirelessly for the right solution for Silbury; Pete because he just wants to see Silbury fixed. Is there no middle way here?
Criticism, even if it resulted in a re-think, isn't causing a delay. The requisite knowledge has been in the bag and hardly added to for nigh on two years, and nowt has been done. The matter will be further considered in October, and then tenders will be invited. There is an unstoppable ponderousness to the process. How much damage per six months is occurring is a state secret, but criticising the dalay and the lack of openness hasn't added to or reduced it by a day.
Is there a middle way? Yes. Do nowt for ten years. The 300 year projections for damage, divided by thirty, is miniscule compared with tunnelling. (Not my speculation. Their figures, plain and simple).
It's entirely wrong, IMO, to take the view "let's just get it fixed". That's like saying "I'd rather a hundred years worth of damage is done next year as at least it would then be done with."
