Knowing zilch about petrification, the fact that one side of the stone is very different to the other might suggest that the wood (if that’s what it is) petrified differently because one side lay in the mud and the other side didn’t. Dunno... though surely someone with a fossilised background could tell fairly easily :-)

Wonder if it’s worth contacting Coflein on this...

In this day and age and given the time this has been spoken about it should have been sorted yonks ago, but then it's far more important to spend another million or twenty on far more pressing things like baling out crooked banks and bankers (oops, spelt that last word incorrectly!) :-)
