They're going to place some grass on top of it for a day and then remove it again. Sorry. I just don't share your outrage.

It's not about damage it's about maintaining the idea that monuments are inviolable - for a good, practical reason. Next time NT go to the police moaning that a public asset in their care has been permanently damaged by graffiti perhaps they’ll think about their temporary “bit of fun for a good cause” at Wilmington.

Well, not only is it misuse of a cultural icon there is also a very real danger that it will set a precedent for more ‘additions’ in the future - from both ‘worthy’ causes and causes of the less worthy. The National Trust is way out of line in allowing this and they should not be allowed to do it again.

Whilst I disagree with this sort of stunt in principle - on this occasion I'm prepared to make an exception. The monument itself isn't being touched and the fact it is raising awareness about prostate and testicular cancer makes it seem quite appropriate given the obvious attributes of the Cerne Giant (sentence partially edited).

"The stunt aims to raise awareness of ‘Movember’, the men’s health campaign which supports prostate and testicular cancer and mental health.
The moustache was created by grass seeds from British Seed Houses and carefully tended before being placed on the Cerne Giant, Britain’s largest chalk hill figure, for the day."

Because you don't share my passion. But that's ok. :)
