I agree, these two sites should have separate listings.

The Lyneham Longbarrow is at SP297211.

The Hoar Stone depicted, at SP378237, should be called `The Hoar Stone at Enstone`. There are other Hoar Stones.

For instance, at Steeple Barton, 5 miles to the east, there are two Hoar Stones, which can be very confusing. James Dyer, in his book Discovering Prehistoric England, gives the location of one, but his description is of the other!

Hi Jane & Baza,

I've split these sites up -- they were originally grouped together to follow the format of the MA book. I think I've done it correctly.

Baza, I'll change the Hoar Stone entry. If you have any details worth sharing on the other Hoar Stones, please feel free to add them to the site listings.

Cheerio,
H.

Sadly that is fairly common in that book, which is a shame because otherwise it is fairly decent guide. I've noticed wrong entries and wrong grid refs - he even puts one longbarrow about 20 miles out to sea - I thought he'd discovered Atlantis or something. ;-)
