A Viking King from the Dark/Middle ages died there
during a battle. His royal subjects perished too and
were said to be buried beneath the hill.

Hi

I was born and went to school near this site. During my whole school life we were never taught anything about this (or any other) barrow. Does anybodybody have any firm information on how old this site is? Has there ever been any excavations of the site? Any references?

Tony

Is this like they couldn't explain burials outside churchyards so all barrows were explained as resulting from war between Danes and Saxons - hence Waylands Smith, and Alfred's castle, and.,....and,....

run out of ideas
