My problem with Burl is that it is now quite old. It is indeed a masterpiece, but in most cases not too relevent for my travels. I found it piceless back in the UK.

I now find the info of locals and landownners more useful for most issues.

I suppose I will have to track down who I lent most of my books to five years ago while I was taking a break from all this stuff. Either that or lash out a couple of hundred squid and buy 'em again ... hurrumph!

if we were talking in musical terms then, Burl is jazz and cope is funk ("jazz is the teacher, funk is the preacher")...can you dig it?
What Burl gives you is perspective.
Burl has spent a lifetime getting deep with his subject, so what you or I see as unique, Burl sees the comparison with another part of the Islands.
Burl has the big picture, he helps us gain our perspective, plus he knows a shitload of stuff about EVERYTHING.
His mighty tome was republished/updated/rereleased last year, I haven't read the new edition so I can't comment.....but if the birthday fairy is real..............
