As mentioned on Hob's earlier post - I was saddened to see that two of the remaining standing stones are now lying down in the grass on Doddington. They look like they have been pushed over and quite recently.

Aye, that is sad. Re: also your, "Is there no chance of getting the county archaeologist to advise on re-erecting the stones, it wouldn't be too big a job - nice project to raise awareness?" http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/31537/fieldnotes/doddington_stone_circle.html#comment1985

I'm sure the good people at Heritage Action http://heritageaction.wordpress.com/ would run a feature for you on it if you sent them a line or two, along with a couple of pics, outlining the problem; you might then use that to help support your request for getting the stones re-erected.

Nice pics of Kettley Crag (from a new perspective) by the way.

Cheers for the update bg, I look forward to reading the report you got from the CA.

The state of the whole moor makes me despair. From the neglected circle to the nearly burnt rock art of the quarry site, and the 4x4s eroding the hillfort. I'm more than happy to lend support if you want to go bothering the authorities. As LS suggests give HA a shout too to lend more botheringnes for the CA et al.

I've a total soft spot for the Doddington circle as the first time I saw it I had no idea it was there, and had been unsuccessfully looking for the rock art, so it was a nice consolation prize :)
