We got some interestin' stan'ing stones roight here in sunny Plymouth: them all wear that Burberry, an' grunt at each other when the sun strikes 'em.
Seriously though, Dartmoor has a fine crop (the Merrivale Plague Market and Grimspound are personal faves - and Grimspound has the Warren House Inn close by (we're back to pubs again!) - its a huntin' pub (an' I ain't gonna say nuffin to tha' for fear of bein' a bit anti) and has a fire that (apparently) has been lit for something like 200 years (if I remember rightly), and if the day is cold and crisp, so much the better for being out amongst it (knowing there's a pub to fall back on (and out of!). Dartmoor isn't the Megalithic arena of the Avebury/Silbury setting, but you have to give the people who put these things out there a big hand (and we don't get the incessant noise of Lyneham like Avebury does!).

There's a pub in South Zeal which has a standing inside it!
The landlord once tried to take it out but they couldn't find the bottom so left it and built a dividing wall with the stone in the center.
I think it was worth in his books that reckons there are 11,000 monuments on Dartmoor!
I miss the solitude but have come across several low flying jets or helipoters from time to time when out wandering.
Plymouth used to have the giants Gog and Magog on the hoe. What a shame they have gone!
