i did the same walk last month. We met a nice guy who showed us a nice clearing in the trees directly opposite the gate to waylands smithy very peacefull & really secluded. but we just camped in a field overlooking ogbourne golf course, you can see right round to barbury an excellent spot to watch the sun go down. you might get stuck if you go uffington to avebury but if you got he other way it seems to be fine-there was a lot of f&m in ogbourn still last month and we had to take the road for a few miles and join back up on a bridleway. might be o.k now though, hope so, it was a dissapointing detour. don't miss the water tap a ridgeway farm as well.
