Also planning a trip to Cumbria and see that in order to visit Gunnerkeld I absolutely must pay the farmer a visit first, although reports say he is very friendly.
Lovely bloke. I visited a couple of years ago, and he couldn't have been more welcoming.
When I went with postie, the lady at the farm was very nice and even apologised for the fact she hadn't kept the thistles down.

:)

Couldnt help it, jumped in the car and did the 450 mile round trip to see Gunnerkeld today. Farmer so friendly as you advised and what an amazing experience. She (the farmer) took me through the history of the excavations on site, the photo shoots that have taken place there and a detailed description of what I would see. She then introduced me to her dog Roy and then pointed out the way to the stones, amazing.my only issue was that Boots were inadequate and should have thrown my wellies in!
