Anyone have any info on the reasons behind the naming of this stone?

Hello Boylemesiter,

Looks like a personal name (as many places are). It's the kinda research that needs detailed local knowledge (and library work etc).

If it is a personal name then maybe:

Bertel
-----
1. German, Swedish, and Danish: from a pet form of the personal name Berthold.
2. French: from a derivative of Old French berte ‘basket’, ‘pannier’.

Berthold
-------
German and Scandinavian: from the Germanic personal name Bertwald, composed of the elements berht ‘bright’, ‘famous’ + wald ‘rule’. The second element has been altered by association with German hold ‘lovely’, ‘splendid’.

take your pick!

Possibly after Fritz Berthele.
Collector and Amateur archaeologist, a title that doesn't do the man any justice.
