Didn't someone (possibly Martin Brennan) say that the alignment from the entrance of cairn L at Loughcrew to the interior free-standing stone was aligned with an eclipse around the time of its erection? It may have been solar, though.

It's an interesting theory, but would a lunar eclipse be as big a deal as a solar eclipse? It would assume a lunar rather than solar cult. The moon's a cool thing, I admit, but was it bigger than the sun?

Eclipses are buggers to work out due to Delta T etc .I have major problems (not standstills) with most lunar " alignments " .They work out theoretically but for a variety of reasons you don't even see them a lot of the time .Would they really be marked ? Good fun looking for them but the intentionality is questionable .

It doesn't really matter whether these so-called alignments are actually visible or not, as they were intended to invoke symbolic magic. There has to be a once in a hundred year, say, combination of circumstance for them to have extra magic. In fact, the only relevance the alignments have know is in predicting where lost monuments may be sited (somewhere down that line eg).
