Anyone else been to this weird site? No time to do fieldnotes atm (and if I start I could be a while not to mention the scanning, weblogs etc..) but one point that is bugging me about this site.

On the ground I found an external ditch, then bank then a gap of about 40 metres to a central banked enclosure with no ditch either internal or external. Maybe its just because I was in the midst of a 8 henge weekend and reading the Irish section of Burls Stone Circle book but...

Oh and figsbury looks so much like Devils Quoits it hurts.

I think that there were probably just the same sort of monument in England et al, but intensive farming (still to really reach Ireland) has erased them.

The layout you describe would fit well with a lot of Irish sites, but the 40m gap would be a huge one even in the largest over here. Something that large would tend to have a stone fort in the centre.
