Make of it what you will, but I think this throws an interesting light on why Silbury Hill was built as tall and as flat-topped as it is.

The crop circle is irrelevant, but the view of Silbury Hill from it isn't.

Mimics the landscape in all respects, eh? Still doesn't tell us why though.

Atb,
TE.

Imagine it white.

Cope reckoned it was deliberately made to a height that was visible from the Ridgeway from around Hackpen Hill southward. if it was white (even if it was pointy) it would have made an interesting locus. It does seem to exude stillness when the viewer is moving...

P.S. Crop circles will ALWAYS be vandalism.

I've looked at Silbury from many different perspectives - it is visible from a very large area. At Harestonedown it appears behind West Kennet Long Barrow; from Windmill Hill it seems to be nestled in the landscape and appears to be the same height as Waden and Folly Hill; its also visible (just) from parts of the Ridgeway; from the Wansdyke it appears to move with you as you walk along; and a clear view can had from Cherhill Down. Its connection with springs and the water table is now well established - I personally feel it is the view towards Silbury that was important, not the view from it as there are high places near Silbury such as Waden Hill where you can get a 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape.

PS: I'm not a fan of crop circles either.

Dear All,

I agree that whoever is creating crop circles isn't doing a reet good job just now. Not like the owd days, eh? It is vandalism, unless of E.T. origin. Mind you, that's still vandalism eh?

As for the top of Silbury, well, my opinion is that it was designed to be flat, to mimic the landscape behind, as seen from every direction, and to provide a platform from which to view the landscape and everything it contained in the makers' World.

As June says, just take a look from different points to appreciate it.

The best to you all,
TE.
