No they never missed it.
EH have known about the Roman village for many years.
They just did a new magnatometer study and found a bit more of the village than they were aware of.
They then used the story as a cover to announce the latest Silbury dig (sorry, repairs) were about to start.

"14th May to 17th August – visitor information point open 10am to 5pm every day, accessible on foot from Avebury village."

I've just got back from Silbury and the visiters center is still not open.
I watched cars swerving all over the road trying to get a parking spot at West Kennet Layby.
It's only a matter of time before there is a crash.
For the life of me I cannot figure out why the hell the Silbury car park is closed.
