Leaving aside all the baiting etc, do we think it's going to be a case of "consult and ignore"?

That may well be so, though I hope EH will have learned something from it.

The thrust of HA's campaign has never been other than to get EH to establish a proper plan to save Silbury. We are (contrary to sbp's accusations) not especially in favour of one method over another and are happy to accept the recommendations of suitably qualified engineers. Indeed, we would actively support a repair plan in which we had the confidence of such professional advice.

The problem we have faced is that EH have been unwilling to disclose any such information to us or to the public and based on what they did publish it seemed possible that the whole project was being run according to an archaeolgical agenda ("let's have a look inside").

The one thing I would like EH to take away is that the more they are honest about Silbury, the more they will win support from groups like HA. We don't expect them to be able to predict all possible outcomes with certainty; we just want to feel that they have carefully weighed their decision based on proper professional engineering advice, so that if anything goes wrong, it will not be for lack of foresight.

Thanks for giving a clear, reasonable and considered answer Steve. Now I have a bit more understanding. Cheers.=;o)
