Totally Dave.

"The Antarctic Heritage Trust has embarked on a long-term project to stabilise and conserve these huts. In 2002 HRH Princes Anne launched the project in response to progressively losing the battle to save these valuable heritage sites (Shackleton's hut was recently named one of the World's 100 Most Endangered Sites by World Monuments Fund). Proposed work will be guided by Conservation Plans which have been written by an international team of heritage and polar experts. The plans propose policies and actions required to conserve the huts. These documents will be complemented by Initial Environmental Evaluations and Implementation Plans for each of the sites.

This is a long-term project based over a minimum of eight years. It is a unique project facing many environmental and logistical challenges including the effects of katabic winds, freeze/thaw cycles, humidity, unique wood destroying fungi, technical conservation issues, the effects of human visitation, funding, location and access."

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-hut. But jeez.

Is there a case to say that these "katabic winds, freeze/thaw cycles, humidity, unique wood destroying fungi, technical conservation issues, the effects of human visitation, funding, location and access, " all have an effect on Silbury. I have been very worried about katabic winds meself

Dave

The whole thing has a comfortable familiar ring to it. Except this bit:

"Proposed work will be guided by Conservation Plans which have been written by an international team of heritage experts"

What a wierd approach.

How about contacting the World Monuments Fund to ask them to include Silbury on their list of the World's 100 Most Endangered Sites?
