>...recently an opportunity arose accompanied by an additional reason why this meeting was badly needed...<

What was this opportunity and what was the additional reason?

>Apart from being the only way a meeting would happen, this has advantages I won't go into on here because EH read it.<

Why is this the only way a meeting will happen, what are the advantages you allude to and why are you concerned that English Heritage will read them here?

>... it will still be a job to get some (Avebury) locals to attend...<

Why is it so necessary to have some Avebury locals attend a meeting to discuss the conservation of a structure of such historic importance; a structure held in trust by an institution (English Heritage) directly accountable to the British tax payer and indirectly accountable to the international community?

>Again I can't go into this, but the locals are integral to the argument that the public require transparency and greater consideration.<

Why are the Avebury locals integral to this argument?

You know, VBB, I have great respect for your posts but I haven't encountered so many cloaks and daggers in a communication since I left the Civil Service! This is classic divide and rule, keep-it-secret-for-as-long-as-possible strategy on the part of EH. No-one wants to jeopardise a meeting about the future conservation of Silbury but some of us want to know, and as the meeting is just over a month away, want to know pretty damn soon, why these Avebury locals are such an 'integral' factor in Silbury's conservation.

Personally, I'd like to know why such an important meeting is not being held at a more suitable venue rather than at a little social club, and why such a meeting is not being brought to the attention of the general public and the national media.

See VBB! I kept my mouth shut (although it was bummin diffucult) ;)
