EH have written to me saying they would be "only too pleased to host a public open meeting" in November, in Avebury and asking whether I would be attending.

I have replied suggesting that a Saturday would be preferable from the point of view of ensuring full public participation and that I and a number of colleagues in Heritage Action will be very pleased to attend on the basis that the meeting will be designed to inform and elicit opinions from the public regarding the appropriate repair option, that the feelings will be communicated to the Commission and that the announced decision will not by then be irrevocable.

Their further reply is awaited.

I had a similar reply from them to my letter.

Eagerly awaiting details of date and location so I can arrange to attend.

I heard about this from the AARG meeting on monday.
Best place would be the Avebury Social club as it can hold more people.

silbury on c5 now

November eh? That's getting close.

I got a reply to Silbury enquiries a while back and was told they were thiking about such a thing.
I was pleased to see them say that all issues would be aired, as the cynical part of me was afeared the meeting would be no more than a propaganda exercise where the memebers of the public would have no say as to what was discussed.

It's a bit of a hike for me, but I'd love to get down there.

Dunno why EH said that, Ask Nigel, he started the topic and is the Silbury expert

To put a thing or two straight - EH have been asked for a public meeting for 5 years, and as a great deal of time passed many ways were tried to get them to agree without success- recently an opportunity arose accompanied by an additional reason why this meeting was badly needed, and it became clear that the only way to get that meeting was to ask for it at Avebury.

Apart from being the only way a meeting would happen, this has advantages I won't go into on here because EH read it.

As for the location all will soon be revealed. What I would say is that the meeting was the primary thing, the location is governed by size, geography, parking, and of course availability.

As Ishmael has stated, even if the meeting is held inside the village it will still be a job to get some locals to attend, and he will have an important job on his hands selling it to them. Again I can't go into this, but the locals are integral to the argument that the public require transparency and greater consideration.

Getting the locals to join in will become more difficult if it is to be held outside the village area, and whilst I would expect EH to lay on transport if it is remote, Ish might for example ask us to ferry people in cars. I would expect those travelling in to offer him that help !

This meeting is practically unprecedented - don't bollux this opportunity people !

Do we have a venue/agenda for this meeting yet?
