>Leaving it as it is without touching it will not lose any archaeology at all, and will not cause any additonal damage – and although some limited rearrangement of strata is expected by slow and minimal migration , it will be less than has occurred since 1969 and it is predicted that the present voids will not migrate to the point it would cause surface damage.<

So do you think, VBB, that no action here is the best option?

Starting to sound that way. Now that there's not going to be a visitor attraction perhaps they can address the problem of access?

No action is now my personal preference having read everything there is to read on the subject.

However, there are very few people that have been given the opportunity to read and discuss the reports and the options, and I would like the opportunity to discuss the report and possible options with a wider range of people than a few archaeo's that are understandably keen to get stuck in. If the issues were democratically aired (which is what Nigel is rightly calling for), and then weighing up what is best for Silbury with what is financially achieveable it is agreed by a wider public that a rebore is what should be done then I will support that wider held decision.

As it stands, EH have taken a free kick when the public were not looking, they have not sufficiently drawn the public's attention to it, and they have put a hell of a spin on the ball.
