Coincidentally, there's a theory that Maes Knoll = Silbury and in fact that much of the Avebury landscape is an attempt to replicate the Stanton Drew area

thats an interesting article. He puts forward Maes knoll as the sighting hill from Stanton Drew, it has a later hillfort and the wansdyke running over it as well... but, what about the earlier timber concentric circles that have been found at Stanton Drew - how does that fit into the picture? were the later stone circles put their because there had been a site of significant religious purpose there in the first place, i.e. by the river or because there was a prominent hill about a mile away..
