Hi, new to the board but I am involved with the volunteers group for the National trust who look after the area. Been reading the notices with some interest. Whilst I have no news of any protest this year being set up officially I can say that on the anniversary of the collapse there will probably be a gathering of some sort, followed by a litter pick probably. A duty that EH fails to do. A certain individual who has posted sarcastic comments about Druids because of personal reasons. The only time a Druid goes onto the hill is Lammas and that is one individual following his beliefs with full permission of enterance. This particular Druid has always had the p*** taken out of him by the lazy perpatrator of this sarcasm who is never up at dawn to see him standing vigil on the holy days. The Baised views of this individual who no longer lives in the Avebury area are to be taken with a pinch of salt as he is well known in the Avebury area for s**t stirring. He is bitter and jealous of the abilities of the spiritual community to get a sense of self worth out of the ancient sites as he is unable to feel anything from them. His rabid attitude shows the misguided lack of personality of a dole hugger who wakes up late and spends too much time communicating through notice boards. Having threatened me, which is vaguely patchetic cos I could p**s on him from a great height shows how twisted he is, as all I am guilty of is standing up for Druids, who have nothing to do with him.

Hmm...

Started with such promise, but I'm not so sure this is what this forum's for...

Someone mentioned rabbits and druids.

Which makes it sound as if we're both on the same side…

Speaking as a rabbit (which I so obviously am), I feel that it needs to be pointed out that have been protesting about the hole in this hill for a number of years now. It's not big enough for the new sports hall we're planning. We are at one with the spirits of the sacred mound, we live in it. We eat from it. We shit on it and we f*** on it. As the true guardians of Silbury, we are appalled that some humans believe it to be proper to impose their mono-speciesist religious viewpoint onto a structure which unarguably belongs to rabbitkind.

Any attempt by humans, be they druidic or not, to use self-perceived calenrical sanctity as a spurious reason to invade our sacred domain, shall be met with unstinting nibbling of the hemline, be it a be-trousered hemline, or a be-robed hemline.

As someone who has disagreed with Pete over some archaeology matters and agreed with him over a vast number of archaeology matters, and knows just how much he cares for Avebury, I think you should keep your offensive remarks to yourself or say what you wish direct to him, not post them here.

We are all fully aware of the personal differences between certain people/groups
I would ask that we leave that aside so that we can work on the common cause
What is going to happen to our beloved hill, are we going to sit back & let it deteriate until its just a reference in a book
My children have seen it, my grandchildren have seen it, I want my greatgrandchildren to see it

Pete's attitude seems a little confrontational to me sometimes, but then I don't know the history involved and so I don't care to make judgements. For all I know, he might be a shining example of moral worth. Or you could be right, and he could be a right tit. I don't know. Either way though, coming onto what's usually a friendly message board just for the purpose of slagging someone off makes you look like a bit of a nob. If you've got something to say to Pete, I'm sure you know where to find him. Puffing up your chest on an internet forum doesn't make you look big, hard or clever. And it sure as fuck doesn't do much for the reputation of the warband.

Welcome to TMA.

"A certain individual who has posted sarcastic comments about Druids because of personal reasons. "

That'll be PeteG who hates lying fuQWitz then?

"The only time a Druid goes onto the hill is Lammas and that is one individual following his beliefs with full permission of enterance."

Appalling use of grammer and spelling (Gravel will correct you later)
http://accessibility.english-heritage.org.uk/default.asp?wci=Node&wce=8034&redirected=1
please note the bit at the end
'Please note: access to the summit of the mound is not permitted, to prevent the severe erosion and damage to rare and fragile plants that too many visitors will cause.'

"This particular Druid has always had the p*** taken out of him by the lazy perpatrator of this sarcasm who is never up at dawn to see him standing vigil on the holy days."

(Gravel will once again correct spelling etc here)

Makes you wonder how I get these sort of images then? http://www.peteglastonbury.ic24.net/photos/MercuryAtAvebury.jpg

"He is bitter and jealous of the abilities of the spiritual community to get a sense of self worth out of the ancient sites as he is unable to feel anything from them."

Not like you people who stay awake on drugs all night banging drums in the car park and playing out of tune guitars whilst wailing mournfully and believing you have some sort of special relationship with the stones that no one else has?

"His rabid attitude shows the misguided lack of personality of a dole hugger who wakes up late and spends too much time communicating through notice boards."

you've not been here before have you?
