Silbury Rabbits

Wow.

My old Gran used to make the best rabbit stew in the world. I'd sit there in her kitchen with the smell of rabbit stew all over the place while dear old Gran cut the thinest slices of bread you ever did see.

It was years before I had rabbit again and not until I was living in a country where beef was so expensive that most people couldn't afford to buy it. A friend of mine got around this by keeping rabbits and the rabbit-based dinner his wife cooked one evening was one of the best dinners I've ever had. Another great dinner was in Boston - really simple - salad, freshly made bread, plenty of wine and mussels taken from Boston Harbour that morning... yummy!

Now how about pidgin? They do a lot of damage as well and I'm sure they'd be better off in one of our pots. If you cant beat them eat them!

I wasn't aware that pidgins [sic] were damaging Silbury Hill. Now if we could train thousands of them to fly over the top we could have that hole filled with white stuff in no time.

BTW, the best pigeons for plain roasting are the young ones that haven't yet got their "stripes" (the white flashes each side of the neck), but older birds are delicious pot-roasted. Stuff them with tart grapes, put them in a pot with a little stock and some dry white wine and slow roast for an hour and a half.
