Of course Silbury's cousin, Marlborough/Merlin's Mound is generally held to have a spiral path - it certainly seems like it now, but who can tell if it's ancient?

Merlin's Mount seems to have a spiral path because it's built on a hillside. There is no spiral path, it's stepped. If there was a spiral path then there'd be no need for the concrete steps. The horizontal terracing was added at about the same time as the grotto, around the turn of the 17th/18th centuries.
