Yes you're right, if people are determined to climb the hill they will, signs or no signs, druids or no druids. Oh well.

As I understand it there has been a hole since the 1770s, and attempts were only made properly to fill it in in the 1930s. That filling material gradually disappeared. Then in 1963 it was capped with chicken wire, to put off rabbits digging. That capping has now disappeared from view as well. So things are on the move, however slowly. Does that not imply a big void in the hill? If there's loads of rain, and people trampling about, won't something happen suddenly one day? I dunno. I don't know what you could do about it, and I suppose EH don't really know either. It's a bloody enormous hill but that wouldn't necessarily stop it collapsing. It's only earth after all. The Hatfield barrow wasn't that big but that fell in when people dug into it, and there isn't anything left of that. While Somebody figures out what to do, perhaps the 'look but don't touch' approach is the best?

Bloody 'ell - all this over a man walking up an old hill! Us Northerners (primitive types, don't forget) shake us flat caps at all this! If a man wants to walk up an 'ill, lerrim! If some others don't wanna go there, so be it! If you're not allowed, then no fucker should be allowed - heathen or no heathen. I'm not having this 'ere divisive nonsense that cos one dood's a druid, or a witch, or politician, that they should be allowed to go up cos the Goddess is on their side. Bollox! As if the Goddess gives a shit - so long as you're not polluting Her. She's a billion times bigger & wiser than the sort of human nonsense conferred upon Her by curious (modern) rituals, with little foundation in the sacred. If yoiu're really into what it's all about, there are plenty of very decent spots where such "rites" can be performed. Showing off on top of Silbury is simply, as one earlier commentator said, egocentric: a performer on a stage, dancing & making himself noticed until the day comes when one realises the profanity of it all - looking back like an adult to a child when you see just why you used to do all those things...

Silbury's gonna fall down one day - just like we do...

Right - I'm going back to mi whippets!
