Sorry, I obviously need to say more...
what need to be done is that state protection needs to mean just that - the state need to get the act together (little legislation humour there). Examples:
In future they must not raise new legislation that threatens guardianship.
They must be more democratic when representing the past at sites - where is the sort of history Andy Worthington is writing about at the site itself ?
They also need to understand that they do not know sites as well as they think they do (Silbury a case in point) and proper archive surveys of all sites need to be carried out.
This is a tip of an iceberg (cos or some other lettuce)
