A rare thing!

close

Congratulations and serious respects to the intrepid volunteers of the Durham and Northumberland rock art project. Cheers to Rockandy for posting the pics and notes here on tma.

Finding previously unrecorded spirals carvings is a thing worthy of note in itself, even more so to have found them on a vertical surface.

But finding them on the vertical surface of an inaccessible cliff above a river, whilst bobbing about in a dinghy? Hey-mon! That is dedicated rockarteering!

I've not got a boat - got a short ladder though. And, nearly, 100ft 250asa double sprocket 16mm reversal film. The camera says 'talking pictures speed' at the 24fps setting. Not found any magnesium ribbon yet (hope there's no methane).

The people that live near the ochre mine will give instructions and a candle - which is the authentic method. I've retrieved my fossil from under the chili bush - the two G. Man CDs were fine, wrapping paper of cupmarked rock just slightly damp. I showed the hiding spot to Alfie, a refugee from S.A. (So it's blown).

I may have the polar opposite hat to J.C.'s dark helmet - a green tweed deerstalker/pith helmet cross. I sold some CDs to buy it last spring but haven't had the brass neck to wear it yet.

Congrats to all, and good pics..

very true Mr Hob, is a most wonderful find.

I'll echo what Hob said, brilliant stuff Rockandy!

That's a crackin' find mate.
When they're not busy incurring the wrath of petty minded fools, the rock art project folk are premier league.
