There was a small dig at Winterbourne Bassett last week which proved very interesting.
Amongst the finds were 2 definate stone sockets and a possible third.
This dig confirms Dave Fields' article in the last WAM that the circle was in fact in the field across the road from were the stones are.
The stones ion the map seem to form part of a natural sarcen drift.

ps. I've heard that Josh Pollard is at Durrington Wells doing a dig, anyone near enough to take a looksee?

I haven't seen Dave Fields' article but is he saying that the stones drifted naturally over a period of what... 2000-3000 years to their present location? That seems a hellava long way for a sarcen walk-about over a reatively short period of time.

Could the stones not have been dragged to their present location by the usual "Off my land" mentalilty of local landowners - much as were the Sanctuary stones?
