Yup that's exactly it - 6 figure grid refs are only accurate to 100m. Some of the sites have been updated with better refs where the mapping is of sufficient quality to accurately get a long/lat for it, but there's a lot of sites in the database and the majority haven't been updated, so most will only be accurate to within 100m. If any intrepid souls feel like supplying more accurate grid-refs for things, then let us know and we'll set up some kind of submission form for you.

If you haven’t already got it then you could contact EH and they can supply you with the National SMR, most of which have 8 figure refs. However, I’m not sure what their licensing on the use of the data would be and also trying to match up SMR and TMA sites would be one hell of a job (unless TMA sites are tagged with their SMR record numbers somewhere behind the scenes). Doesn’t help for those places not on the SMR of course.
Just a thought.

It would be a manual process, but would there be any point in taking Lat/Long readings of GE for selected sites that I'm interested in? It would mean the Eds having to update sites manually (unless you could easily provide a method for users to update Lat/Long info directly?)
