“Cottagers at the foot of Bredon Hill, near Tewkesbury, assured me in 1906 that there is treasure hidden near or under the Bambury Stone, which goes down to the Avon to drink when it hears the clock strike twelve." From: Cotswold Place-Lore and Customs, by J. B. Partridge, in Folklore, Vol. 23, No. 3. (Sep., 1912), pp. 332-342.

"Details of the treasure remained sketchy and the identity of the lucky metal detecting enthusiast has not been revealed. "

If the 'treasure' was found within the Scheduled Monument area then I'm not surprised - Go to jail, go directly to jail,do not pass go, do not collect millions of pounds.

If this is how it happened:

then why should they get paid loads of money. That doesn't seem quite right, rewarding them for ripping the coins out of the ground in a way they obviously knew was destroying evidence. If they were going to take it to PAS all legitimate-like and not hide it in their shed to gloat over, why didn't they do it Properly? All they are is treasure hunters getting high on pulling the stuff out of the ground. And the current rules do nothing to reinforce that such an attitude is not approved of. It's a bit bemusing really.
