I wonder.. I believe you can see the wording and carving on gravestones by getting a blanket, covering you and the stone, and shining a torch on the stone at various angles. Yes you look quite odd doing this.

Surely it would work on rock carvings too? Though whether you could also then take a photo I don't know.

(on the gallery: my one and only rock art piece of artistry is languishing in the art department somewhere. They couldn't find it when I last went, although it was said to be definitely there. Not that I'm giving up that easily)

This is the principle of the carvings being best viewed at dusk, near to the summer solstice - it's just longer shadows defining the carved down-bits.

Yes, I have a piece for that exhibition - not had the time to ring up, though, and to ask if they want it. Too much other stuff going on.

What I may try is using a directional flash on it one night.... worked a treat on the Dobrudden Stone. Whenever I go anywhere near the Barmishaw Stone, the skys cloud over. Tried sneaking up on it from all directions! Think there's some genius loci having a right laff at my expense!
