I've now given up searching the map! I'm convinced there's neither a Worm's Rock nor a Worm's Well marked on it. Worm's Rock is said to be the place where the Worm would cross the river. I see that Worm Hill is right next to the river - that would be my best guess of where to start looking. I think the only way to find it would be to get out there and walk a few miles of riverbank. With a bit of luck it would be where instinct seems to be telling me it is - next to Worm Hill. As for Worm's Well, my best guess is that its been re-named Lambton Well.

Just a thought, and a bit of a wild one at that:

I mentioned Worm Hill to a friend whose been there. They were keen to point out that they'd not spent much time there, but they had wondered if the whole hill was artificial. They said it wasn't a very tall or large hill - in fact, they said its size reminded them of the Thornborough Henges. Anyway, when I look at it on the map it strikes me as somehow odd that it should be so close to the river. Wouldn't erosion mean that there shouldn't be a hill there?

Please tell me I'm talking crap if that's the case! ;) I thought it worth at least mentioning, though.

Lampton Worm, places to find.

Worms Well,
Worm Hill,
Lampton Hall,
Brugeford Chapel,
Worms Well (ancient well on road back to hall)
Worms Rock (rocky island in river Wear)

Not having a great deal of luck here. Obviously found Worm Hill. Still looking.
