Very interesting.

Penshaw hill has triple earthworks. It was these that my history teacher - a keen local historian told me were supposed to have been caused by the worm.

I've been to Worm hill but I've not heard about the well or the rock, I wouldn't mind trying to find them. do you know where they are?

I don't know where they are, I was hoping you would! I shall scrutinise the map and let you know... I need to visit them too.

The earthwork is very suggestive, as you say - the worm was supposed to have wrapped itself three times around Worm Hill, but the song says seven times around Penshaw.

One thing is certain - Worm or no Worm, Penshaw was hugely significant, as was all of the landscape around it.
