The horizon is about 20m higher than the circle at that point (my GPS has 173m as against 194m, and the OS map roughly confirms it). Jon Patrick has confirmed a winter solstice axial line for the circle (Lettergorman), but its about half a degree off perfect and there's one portal down - to complicate matters.
For Knockawaddra with 187 azimuth 20m height difference and 1.1 Km distance I get a dec of 36.3 ,so quite a bit off .Ruggles doesn't seem to mention it in "AiPB&I" ?

Sorry I was throwing too much in together there - the data I gave was for centre-circle to quartz boulder to horizon, rather than the axial line and like I said - could be way off. It (quartz-line) looks to direct to the four-stone setting at Maulatanvally and that's where I took the reading.

Jon Patrick's survey was done as a check on John Barber's earlier data and he came up with a dec. of -24.3 for the main axis-line (to a saddle between two hills opposite the site). Clive Ruggles only surveyed the multiple stone circles, but still it is odd that he doesn't mention it, given his mentioning Drombeg as the only example. I'll get the exact reference in a sec.

Comparing their results to Ruggles for this area:
