the "English Historical Documents" volume 1 (eyre & spottiswoode) may shed some light here. I have found it very interesting with a wide range of authors.

I can recommend Penguin's Age of Bede.
You get Bede's life of Cuthbert and the Lives of the Abbots of Wearmouth and Jarrow, Eddius's life of Wilfred and the voyage of Saint Brendan.
Not sure if it's still in print, mines 1983
