Just bumping this to mention that I'll not only be swanning around Avebury in the afternoon, but may well stay over, as I might have business in Southampton the next day. Any accommodation recommendations?

I think someone mentioned the New Inn at Winterbourne Monkton (the next village) but not everything I've heard about it is good.

You've probably seen this link already but here it is just in case. Marlborough is your best bet and has some good pubs; I believe The Lamb often has live music.
