I might be a bit snidey to suggest it, but wouldn't it have been easier, more in keeping with the general asthetic, generally less intrusive all round and considerably more wheelchair accessible to have made a chalk surfaced ramp? Admittedly, it would have to be a pretty steep ramp if it wasn't going to be preposterously long. Hopefully the steps will weather in and become relatively unobtrusive.
