Well I reckon if pure economics was ruling what happens in Avebury then given the amount of visitors it gets there's room for several more restaurants, a Pagan museum, a Crop Circle cafe, an Art shop and several more antiques shops. Look how Glastonbury and Tintagel cater for their visitors.
Tintagel's a dump though. Surely that demonstrates that the intervention of the NT is preventing Avebury from turning into something hideous?

Not that I particularly want it to turn into a tourist trap but I somehow doubt if the dominant landlord will allow it, so I reckon there's more going on than mere rural decline!
Well yeah, obviously. I'm just arguing that I don't think the NT can be held entirely to blame for the decline of Avebury as an idyllic rural community.

True enough.
Although, effectively having just one retailer and no competition brings its own problems, as the Blessed Margaret might say.

Steady on there!

have you been lately? they have been busy regenerating the place...sure there are still the arthurian themed shops but the place is a lot tidier than it used to be. I have been to Boscastle today where the NT are busy rebuilding the harbour as it was before the flood in 2005. Having not been there for many years I had trouble working out which buildings were new and which were old. Slag them off if you like but without them we would be in a far greater mess.
