Okay I might be completely confusing the issue here but I always thought one of the pubs was at Corsham, near to Pickwick but refuse to read Dickens to confirm this ;) much easier to type a couple of words on the internet.....

"Corsham inspired Charles Dickens to write The Pickwick Papers, and create the character Moses Pickwick, from the landlord of the Hare and Hounds"

I once ran out of petrol in Pickwick, and wandered around for ages looking for a garage, somehow I ended up in this cottage with an old lady, who kindly made me a cup of tea and then gave directions to the nearest garage..Pickwick is therefore engraved in my memory.
