Article from the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, which includes this:

Leading Avebury archaeologist Mike Pitts said he was sympathetic to the request from the druids. He said: "The issue of how we handle and display human remains in museums is of great importance."

So it seems a "Leading Avebury archaeologist" didn't appear to have known about the bones being artificial either.

Like I said, let's compare like with like please.

There's more!

A comment from the above article's comments section by CoBDO:

"The Council of British Druid Orders would like it to be known that the people mentioned above are NOT members of CoBDO, having been suspended from our organisation last year. Neither do they speak for Druidry, Paganism nor the people who hold ceremonies at Avebury."

So then, they weren't members of any of the mainstream Druid orders in the UK it seems. Perhaps the first post of this thread should have read:

"A miserable band of suspended resuscitators belonging to a fringe Order of an allegedly degenerate dead religion"

The best archaeology happens when you dig a little deeper...
