Well I can see how all these names are derived but asking the obvious where does 'Wishing stone come from ?

Anyone know of any story associated with 'wishing stones' ?

I don't know about stones but my wife fell down a wishing well.

I didn't know those things worked!

Washing stone is one explanation. water was poured over the stone, and collected, and used to cure sickness. Then there's the Blarney Stone ( http://www.sacredsites.com/europe/ireland/blarney_stone.html ) - which gives the gift of eloquence, a little bit like wish-granting.
