>(though they seem to have found plenty of land for their social club, its carpark and the huge playing field at the back of the club.

As to building a large car park, thats a bit hypocritcal when your yelling elsewhere about how wrong it is to build a new house in the high st.

The fact that Keiller donated land to the villagers is neither here nor there (the reasons for him doing so were to compensate some of them for the inconvenience of having to relocate to Avebury Trusloe). The fact that the club, its carpark and the playing field still occupy such a large area in Avebury today, however, is relevant. In all the many visits I've made to Avebury I have never once seen the playing field in use; same applies to the club carpark - though perhaps this is put to occasional use during one of the club's weekly line dancing events (or something similar). Point is, these areas, together with the main carpark, could be put to much more productive use during particularly busy times at Avebury - and I have yet to hear of a valid reason why they should not be put to such use.

Sorry, I don't seem to be able to find the bit where I was 'yelling' about how wrong it is to build a new house in Avebury - perhaps you could provide the relevant link? As to a large carpark (with appropriate facilities to overnight) that brings us back to the existing main Avebury carpark which, with some improvements, would be adequate for foreseeable visitor needs.

But let's cut to the chase Pete, you and I both knew Roger Bolton, and if I remember correctly he was someone who you liked and respected. Roger, for those who didn't know him, lived until a few years ago in the Lodge on Avebury High Street. He did an enormous amount for Avebury, served on the Council and was well known and well liked nationally and internationally. In the end he left the village and I suspect you know some of the reasons why. There's a lot of self-centred crap going on in Avebury, I know it and you know it - I'm just puzzled why you seem to be defending it all the time?
