I was hoping for better results but the light pollution is terrible!

Orion's still very clear and lovely though.

You could try playing with the white balance a bit to see if you can get rid of the yellow tinge from the street lights. Another option may be a graduated neutral grey filter put on upside down and then turn the image B&W.

I quite like it like that...

beautiful picture pete, and i prmise it wasnt me who left their lights on.

bloody swindon, we hate them up in here in oxford

swindon town are going down, going down
swindon town are going down
fuck off swindon
(to the tune of london bridge, a popular song amongst the followers of oxford utd, 'course, they're above us in the league but...)

Luverly picture Pete.
Nope, not me leaving the lights on either;it's all candle light at Wessexy Towers.

Excellent photograph - you'll just have to take that night time camera into Scotland, Brittany or Wales, where I am in Northumberland there's an orange glow one way, that's Carlisle and another glow the other way that's Tyne and Wear. Bolton - you don't even need a torch at night !

very nice picture, Dartmoor's good for dark skies, I once sat at the greyweathers waiting for equinox sunrise and the stars were quite gobsmacking

Those dang sodium vapour lights! The bane of my life those things..

Great photo though, must have been very high ISO judging by the lack of trails? As Fourwinds said, you can try 'tungsten' white balance to get a more natural looking effect but I've never been able to find a white balance setting (even in manual white balance) that gives both a natural sky and landscape when sodium vapour lights are used. Some historic buildings are lit by tungsten which is much easier to work with. Remote places under pure moonlight are just magic though.

Would love to be able to just pop out and photograph Avebury at night! It still gives me the goolies looking at night photos of the place though because of that 'Children of the Stones' TV series!

Orion looks great, keep up the good work :)
