Sadly, it's looking unlikely...

Looks like the weather's gonna be good for it though! You never know - we might not be able to resist it... :oD

Have fun!

Cheers Mr Goffik, I've only been to Avebury twice, once when young and didn't really understand it, thena few months ago when I may as well have built an ark and sailed round it. Didn't get to see the surrounding sites then so going to have a proper mooch around tomorrow. The weather's hopefully going to be better than the last time I was there so looking forward to it.

Trying heading for The Mother's Jam here;

though its probably a long walk, but Merrick gives a good description and its in the TMA book.
Think I shall try going there next week if the sun shines.

One of my favourite Avebury walks, js, starts at the bottom of the Kennet Avenue (the end away from Avebury) and up Waden Hill. At the top there's a spectacular view of Silbury (pic here http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6094/1623/400/Silbury%2024.0.jpg ). You can then walk down the other side of Waden, past Silbury and on up to West Kennet Long Barrow (which will also take you past Swallowhead) or retrace your steps to the Avenue. If you decide to do the whole walk you don't have to climb Waden again, just follow the path along the Winterbourne and that will bring you back to the main Avebury car-park.

Sigh, wish I were there right now. Enjoy :-)
