Stukeley was wrong about that.
All these supposed broken stones are still there.
Mike Papworths geofiz map of the area shows most are a few feet below the surface.
(AC Smith also uncovered them in the 1880's)
Not Everything Stukeley wrote or drew is gospal truth.
He never noticed the fallen entrance stone in the east for instance.

That's <i>terrific</i> news Pete - perhaps Stukeley was using the word 'demolish' in the sense of 'pull down' rather than 'destroy or break'. Either way, the (misguided) actions of Tom Robinson probably ensured the survival of the stones and I withdraw the curse upon his name on :-)
