Gonna take the new g/f down to visit Avebury and it's environs shortly, and was wondering opinions on the best places to stay?

We stayed at the Red Lion - I would recomend that - bit spooky in the middle of the night tho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can highly recommend the 'Lodge'.

I stayed at

and thought is was excellent.

Vegetarian breakfast.

If you get the front room you get a view over the stones.

We've stayed @ The New Inn, Winterbourne Monkton, the next village up, cheap n cheerful B&B

also camped at THE BARGE, Honey Street, Alton Barnes.. a little drive (10 mins) from avebury, but good for knap hill, adams grave, crop circles in summer.

the barge welcomes everyone (including stripey jumpers and dogs on ropes), food is pretty good, as is the beer and the atmosphere is friendly

It's also maybe worth pointing out that, apart from the Lodge in Avebury High Street, the New Inn at Winterbourne Bassett and the Red Lion, there are also two or three other B&Bs in or close to Avebury. The staff at the Lion are quite helpful in providing contact numbers; so too is the little information centre in the Methodist Chapel in Green Street (just up the road form the Lion).
