"i mean you wouldn't argue that the mary rose should stay sunk because its sinking was part of its history would you?"

Yes indeed! I can accept the argument that money is not available to re-erect the Avebury stones, but I cannot accept the unadulterated humbug that we should leave the stones buried because at some historical period, religious nutters burnt, broke and buried them.

Are you saying historical events should not be part of this story, or are you suggesting a hierarchy of heritage much like EH did at Kenwood House where they made it all Georgian ?

Secondly, whilst "they" (and I am mean all the stone buriers of all periods) were religious, and they may have been nutters, they didn't bury the stones because of religious reasons but for agricultural & husbandry. You may well be aware of this but many are not, and it demonstrates how important historical events are to the story. Otherwise you may well say that Neolithic religious nutters put the stones up because they thought they were people that had fallen down (I just made that up) so they sould be dug up and reburied where they were originally.
