Avebury; new work, new thoughts, by Josh Pollard and Mark Gillings..

The late Neolithic monuments around Avebury, Wilts, form one of the most spectacular prehistoric ceremonial complexes in Europe. While seemingly well understood, the results of recent fieldwork described here illustrate what can be and potentially remains to be discovered of Avebury's past. Thoughts are offered on how and why this region became the focus for monument construction during the neolithic, and on the responses of later generations to a remarkable megalithic legacy....
