This bit concerned me:

I hadn't heard about any trouble at the solstice and it'd be a real shame if the actions of a few had (as usual) screwed it up for the majority. I was at Avebury on the day proceeding the solstice, and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. Nobody seemed to be causing any problems, and the policing was extremely low-key and sensitive. I saw a number of police officers going out of their way to share a joke and a chat with the hippies, and I even heard of one officer having a go on someone's mandolin. Overall, it was a pleasure to see the alternative community and the forces of law and order existing side by side. It was also a pleasure to see what can be achieved through reasonable compromise, with limited camping and access to 24/7 parking. I really hope this hasn't all gone to shit.
